To our friends, associates and neighbors:

When I joined Bagley Housing Association four years ago, I said that our success was going to be measured not just in financial statements, but also in the spirit of dreams realized and the energy of a neighborhood revitalized. As Bagley Housing Association concludes its first decade, I'm pleased to report that by all indications our dreams are well within our grasp.

By virtually any significant measure - the number of new houses, rehabilitations of existing homes, median home values, and average income of neighborhood households - Bagley Housing Association's Homes at Ste. Anne's project has been making a positive difference in the Hubbard-Richard area. A neighborhood long neglected is becoming known as a place where people are proud to own homes.

In the process of constructing brand new single family houses - by the end of 2000 we will have completed 45 in just three years - Bagley Housing Association has built credibility among government agencies, foundations, financial institutions and corporations. Our funding from these sources has increased by more than 60-fold in just five years, from $42,000 in 1996 to an estimated $2.7 million in 2000.

That support has allowed us to plan confidently for the future. In addition to our home building, we have broken ground on a $6 million 65-unit senior citizen apartment building and have begun rehabilitation work on the old Ste. Anne's School, which will reopen its doors as Casa Maria High School, a charter institution, in the Fall of 2001. The funding also enables us to continue to deliver much needed services, such as financial counseling and house repair and rehabilitation to residents.

As the dream of a revitalized Hubbard-Richard moves steadily toward reality, we at Bagley Housing Association find ourselves playing several roles - builder, counselor, partner and neighbor. We invite you to review our efforts in more detail from these perspectives. Moreover, we welcome your contributions - whether personal, professional or financial - in helping us make a difference in Detroit.

Sincerely,

Vincent J. Murray, Ed. D.
