Detroit, primarily in the Hubbard-Richard neighborhood, with a Jan. 18 open
house that will feature works from local artists, live music and refreshments

Hispanic artist likes gallery's cozy

At less than 400 square feet,
the Bagley Housing Art Gallery might be the smallest art showroom in Metro
Detroit. But it promotes Hispanic culture in a big way through changing exhibits
and programs.
“I like the gallery,” says painter Ramon Angel Guadiana, solo exhibitor for
Hispanic Heritage Month, which goes through Oct. 15. “It’s intimate and gives me
all the space I need.”

Bridge plan divides Detroit neighborhood

“If you wanted to look at a
successful redevelopment of a neighborhood, one with setbacks and people
overcoming obstacles to succeed, we have done it,” Murray said. “Beyond the
condos, we have another 16 (single-family) homes that can be added.”
In recent years, Bagley Housing has worked closely with private developers and
city officials to clean up environmental problems, fix roads and street lamps,
gain clear title to land and apply for building permits.
Murray said demand for housing has come largely from area residents, growing
families and recent Hispanic immigrants. The neighborhood is across Interstate
75 from Mexican Village, a retail, restaurant and entertainment area.
The new two-story Ste. Anne’s Gate Condominiums will offer units with two
bedrooms, a large kitchen, one-and-a-half baths, a two-story foyer and a one-car

Bagley Housing plans to build project near Ste. Anne Church

The new condominiums are one
of the first housing developments in southwest Detroit not subsidized by the
city, state or federal government. And because the condos will be in a
Neighborhood Enterprise Zone, homeowners will receive a 60-percent discount on
their property taxes for 12 years, Murray said.

on Thursday, October 3rd, 2002 at the park. Detroit City Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick made the dedication along with

DETROIT -- As Detroit nears its 300th birthday, the city's very first
spiritual center is the anchor for a bricks and mortar resurrection.
The Catholic church of St. Anne de Detroit was first built four days after
